The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has become law throughout the EU on the 25th May 2018. It represents a major overhaul of data protection regulations in Europe. It has replaced all data protection regulations which were current at that time. In Ireland our previous data protection legislation was embodied in the Data Protection Act 1988 as amended by the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003.
As an employer you should always take steps to avoid discrimination. It is not good for the employee, it is not good for the atmosphere in the workplace and it is not good for you.
The Criminal Justice (Spent Convictions and Certain Disclosures) Act 2016 commenced on the 29th April 2016.
The enactment of this legislation brings Ireland in line with most other EU states in providing that people convicted of relatively minor offences can eventually leave the past behind and look to the future with confidence.
